If you’re wondering how to get a CSCS card, you’re in the right place!

CSCS stands for Construction Skills Certification Scheme. The card is something that you get to give proof of your relevant construction skills and qualifications when you go to work at a construction site. CSCS cards were introduced in a bid to improve standards in the UK construction industry.

Do I need a CSCS card?

It’s not a legal requirement, but many larger contractors and major house builders require that subcontractors hold them to be able to work on their sites. Getting one is therefore a good idea to prevent restricting the jobs you can work on.

I don’t know how to get a CSCS card

Never fear, TaxScouts is here.

In order to get a CSCS card, you can apply online.

Here are the things you’ll need to have to hand for the application:

  • A scanned copy of your qualification certificate or proof that you’re registered to complete a qualification course
  • The test ID number HS&E test
  • A credit or debit card – there’s an application fee of £36

Once ordered, most cards arrive within 3-5 working days via Royal Mail, although wait up to 10 days before contacting them as COVID-19 has affected the speed of deliveries.

Do I need an CSCS card to join the CIS?

No, you don’t need a CSCS card to join the Construction Industry Scheme. Whilst closely related, you can be part of one without the other.
